Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In Washington she was named general correspondent for NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981, she began working for the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. In 1992, she was named chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter of NBC News. Mitchell was the host and panelist for the TV news program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, she was awarded the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) honored Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to the protection for First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a range of noteworthy stories including weapons control, the budget tax reform as well as the Iran-contra scandal and traveled extensively together with President Reagan to meetings with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
